The fruition of over twenty years’ research into the roots of western astrological practice, Demetra George’s masterwork brings the foundations and dynamics of ancient astrology to life.
Overview of the Volume
Building on the foundations of volume one (Assessing Planetary Condition), volume two focuses on the delineation of planetary meaning through the twelve houses. If the planets are the essential forces ruling life in the sublunary world, then the houses are the principles that bring them down to earth and ground them in our everyday reality. Drawing from Hellenistic, Medieval, and Renaissance source texts, Demetra traces the origins and development of the twelve houses, elucidating their nature and significations in rich detail. Upon this basis, the principles of chart delineation are thoroughly outlined through the analysis and synthesis of planetary and house-based techniques. As in volume one, each technique is illustrated using example charts, diagrams, and practical exercises.
Having articulated the principles of delineation, the book then explores the different systems for ascertaining the rulers of the entire nativity. Like the helmsman’s rudder that steers the vessel through the waters of existence, the masters and lords of the nativity provide the overarching principles that support and guide the native’s path through life as a whole. These rulers include the domicile lord of the Ascendant, the domicile lord of the Lot of Fortune, the triplicity lords of the sect light, the Predominator, the Master of the Nativity, and the Lord of the Nativity. After an overview of timing procedures and length-of-life techniques, the book concludes with a comprehensive glossary, bibliography, and index.
